Youth Mental Health First Aid

April 12, 2023 @ 8:30 am - 4:30 pm

Many adolescents are experiencing a mental health crisis and don’t know where to turn.

Who is this training for?

Youth Mental Health First Aid is a FREE 8 hour training designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to support children and adolescents who are experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or are in crisis.

The class is primarily designed for adults (18+ required) who regularly interact with young people.

Topics Covered

The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations.

Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD), and eating disorders.

Mental Health First Aid USA is coordinated by the National Council for Behavioral Health.

Made possible by the J. Wayne and Delores Barr Weaver Legacy Endowment at Baptist Health.
